Centre for Career Action

The staff at the Centre for Career Action  state that “our mission is to educate and motivate all Waterloo students (regular and co-op) to develop and take action to achieve current and future career goals."

Take advantage of these helpful services:

  • Video, print, and computer-based resources for career planning, education, employers, and work/study abroad programs
  • Workshops for improving résumé and letter writing, interviewing skills, negotiating job offers, and more
  • Appointments to critique your résumé, have a mock interview, or get advice on your future
  • Events – Career/Job/Volunteer Fairs, Employer Information days, and Post-Degree days
  • How to get a job – part-time, co-op, full-time

Student Life Office

The Student Life Office plans and promotes events, programs, and resources to help all students at Waterloo. Some of the projects include

  • Orientation Week – amazing activities in September designed to introduce first-year students to Waterloo and to one another. Highlights of the week include:
    • Black & Gold day – bring your school spirit and attend the first home football game of the season
    • Monte Carlo night – get out your semi-formal clothes and spend the night dancing, relaxing, and playing games at the SLC "casino"
    • Toga party – tie on a bed sheet and get ready for the largest toga party in North America
  • Student Life 101 – a two day program for new students and their parents to “learn the ropes” at Waterloo. You can take tours, meet faculty and staff, attend information sessions, and start to call Waterloo “home”
  • First Year Student E-zine – showcases on-campus events, important dates, and ways to become involved

Organizational & Human Development

Each term, Organizational & Human Development (OHD) offers several workshops with the goal of helping Waterloo students enhance their leadership capabilities by gaining the knowledge and developing the skills to excel at leadership on campus and within the community.

These workshops are highly interactive and free to current Waterloo students. Topics include “Exploring the Principles of Leadership,” “Communication Styles and Leadership,” and “Perspectives – Unleashing Your Creative Potential.”

The Library

Take advantage of the Library’s services and resources available to you.

  •  Contact your subject librarian when you need research help
  •  Study individually in one of the Library’s locations or book a group study room
  •  Sign up for one of the Library’s workshops to learn the research basics
  •  Get familiar with the Library’s website, including the Primo catalogue and Research Databases page
  •  Use your WatCard to sign out books, print from the Library’s computers, or make photocopies

Food is a very important part of university life. Waterloo has a wide variety of food locations on campus to meet all your cravings and tastes.

  • Food Services eateries – numerous locations including Tim Hortons, diner-style shops, and Chinese food
  • Residence and University College cafeterias – Ron Eydt Village, Village 1, Conrad Grebel, Renison, St. Jerome's, and St. Paul's have inexpensive, homemade food that's close to home
  • Bombshelter Pub – restaurant in SLC by day and pub by night
  • Student-run Coffee & Donut Shops (C&Ds) – located in Carl Pollock Hall, Environment 1, Mathematics & Computer, and Biology 1
